frankie edgar vs bj pennA great month of MMA wagering action closes out on Saturday night with UFC 118 wagering lines at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. The feature bout is a lightweight title rematch as Frankie Edgar faces B.J. Penn. The co-feature has Hall of Famer Randy Couture battling former boxing great James Toney.

Check out the current lines for UFC 118 at SBG Global Sportsbook.

There are five bouts on the main card with the bout between Edgar and Penn getting top billing.  Edgar shocked Penn in UFC 112 but he doesn’t get much time to enjoy his title as he has a quick rematch against Penn on Saturday night. Penn is a 3-1 favorite to regain his title. Not many people believe that Edgar can pull off a second straight upset. Edgar proved in the first fight he has a speed advantage against Penn but there is no question that Penn has more power. One thing that won’t happen in this bout is Penn underestimating Edgar. He will be extremely focused to prove that his loss last time was a fluke.

Randy Couture is a 7-1 favorite to destroy James Toney in the co-feature bout in UFC 118 wagering. Serious UFC experts don’t believe that Toney has any chance to win vs. Couture.  Toney can hit but most people don’t believe he will be on his feet long enough for it to matter.  Couture has a huge edge in experience and in training.  Unless Couture makes a monumental mistake this fight should be over quickly in the favor of Couture.

The real co-feature should have been Kenny Florian against Gray Maynard.  This might be the best matchup on the card. The winner of this bout will likely get a title shot vs. the winner of the Edgar-Penn fight. Florian is a -150 favorite in this UFC wagering.  Florian has the edge in striking in this bout and he may be able to land enough punches to win. Florian could also catch Maynard with a hold and win the fight by submission. Also on the main card it is Nate Diaz a 2-1 favorite vs. Marcus Davis and Demian Maia a 2-1 favorite vs. Mario Miranda.

The preliminary card has five bouts, two of which are on Spike TV. Those two are Andre Winner vs. Nik Lentz and Joe Lauzon vs. Gabe Ruediger.  The other three bouts on the preliminary card have Nick Osipczak vs. Greg Soto, Alessio Sakara vs. Gerald Harris, John Salter vs. Dan Miller and Amilcar Alves vs. Mike Pierce.

NFL Wagering Lines - AFC North Preview

joe flacco ravens qbNFL wagering cappers know that the Baltimore Ravens made a big splash by acquiring receivers Anquan Boldin and Dante Stallworth in the offseason. It’s fairly clear that if the Ravens offense lacked weapons before, there is no shortage now. With Ray Rice running and Joe Flacco orchestrating the show, scoring points shouldn’t be a problem in Baltimore anymore.

Team On The Decline:
Cincinnati Bengals Wagering

Sportsbook odds makers were shocked last year when the Cincinnati Bengals swept their three division rivals, and then won the division. This year, they’ll have a much tougher time in doing so. While the Bengals roster has improved, so has their strength of schedule. Not only will they have to face Baltimore, Pittsburgh, they’ll have to play at New England, versus Miami, at Atlanta, at Indianapolis, at the New York Jets, versus New Orleans and versus San Diego. That’s one heck of a schedule.

Predicted Winner: Pittsburgh Steelers Wagering

Some betting sharps won’t appreciate this pick, but we’re sticking with old ye faithful: the Pittsburgh Steelers. When Troy Polamalu is healthy and Ben Roethlisberger is in the lineup, they are the team to beat.

When Polamalu is healthy, the Steelers defense is the best in the division. Sure, the Bengals are up there and Baltimore’s is too – but they’ll have to plug some leaks at cornerback – but nobody’s defense is coached better and has more experience in the North.

NFL wagering pundits know that Baltimore may have the most explosive unit now, but Pittsburgh can definitely do enough. With Hines Ward, Antwan Randle El, Mike Wallace and Heath Miller, they have plenty of weapons. Plus, running back Rashard Mendenhall keeps getting better.

NFL Picks: It won’t be pretty, but the Steelers are a good value pick to win the AFC North.

ryan fitzpatrick bills qbTwo games are on tonight’s NFL wagering board featuring two of the AFC’s expected contenders yet playing as road underdogs at Sportsbook.com. The Indianapolis Colts are 3.5 point underdogs as they take on the Buffalo Bills in Toronto. In the other contest, the New England Patriots (+2.5) travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons.

Indianapolis @ Buffalo

Sportsbook.com Line: Buffalo -3.5 Total: 34

Peyton Manning showed his MVP form in the Colts’ opener against the 49ers, going 8-for-10 for 91 yards while leading his team to 10 points in two series. The offense struggled when Manning turned the reins over to backup Curtis Painter, who proceeded to throw 3 INT in a 37-17 loss to the 49ers. The Colts are now 4-19 in their last 23 preseason games.

The Bills are coming off of a 42-17 thrashing at the hands of the Redskins in their preseason opener. Ryan Fitzpatrick was the top performer at QB for Buffalo, completing 9 of 14 passes for 61 yards and a TD without throwing a pick. Trent Edwards connected on half of his 12 pass attempts for a total of 58 yards and an INT.

Bills RBs Fred Jackson (hand) and Marshawn Lynch (ankle) are both out for this game and likely longer, which should lead to more carries for all-purpose rookie C.J. Spiller out of Clemson. Spiller carried the ball four times for 16 yards against the Redskins.

Painter can’t play much worse than he did in the Colts’ opener and it would seem unlikely that the defending AFC Champs would remain winless after this one against a depleted sub-par team.

Don’t ignore this betting system as you handicap the contest:

Play On - Underdogs or pick (INDIANAPOLIS) - off a home loss by 10 or more points, winless in the preseason. (21-4 over the last 10 seasons.) (84%, +16.6 units. Rating = 2*).

New England @ Atlanta

Sportsbook.com Line: Atlanta -2.5 Total: 37

The Patriots and Falcons are both coming off of solid wins in their preseason openers. For the second straight week, the Patriots are holding joint practice sessions with their upcoming opponent, having done the same thing last week with the Saints. Tom Brady was efficient (5-for-8, 67 yards in two series) in a 27-24 win over the Saints, but suffered a finger injury on his throwing hand. In typical Patriots fashion, the extent of the injury is unknown. Despite having participated in a majority of training sessions after undergoing major knee surgery in the offseason, Wes Welker did not play in the opener and probably will not suit up on Thursday either.

Matt Ryan played just two series in the Falcons’ 20-10 win over the Chiefs, completing three of six pass attempts, including a pair of third-down conversions to Tony Gonzalez. Michael Turner had a solid performance, gaining 29 yards on just four carries with a long of 10.

The Patriots stifled the Falcons offense in Week 3 of the 2009 regular season, posting a convincing 26-10 win in Foxboro. However, that game was played in less than ideal weather conditions with periods of heavy rain over the course of the afternoon.

Keep an eye on the following trend as it affects this contest, since Atlanta’s preseason mindset has been different than most teams over the years…ATLANTA is 27-13 ATS (+12.7 Units) in games where the line is +3 to -3 since 1993. The average score was ATLANTA 19.5, OPPONENT 16.9 - (Rating = 1*). Typically the Falcons have shown a desire to establish a winning attitude in the preseason.
