The red-hot Philadelphia Phillies (51-38) will look to win their 9th in a row tonight as they host the Chicago Cubs (47-43) in an ESPN televised game at 7:05 PM EST. The Phillies won their last five before the All-Star break and they swept the Florida Marlins over the weekend. The eight-game winning streak is the Phillies longest since 2006. SBG Global reports that the early MLB wagering lines sees the public taking the Cubs on the road as a +108 underdog with a total 9.5 flat.
Jimmy Rollins has been one of the reasons for the winning streak. He is hitting .397 with eight doubles, a homer and eight RBIs in his last 14 games. "When he gets on base, he makes things happen and it’s definitely a different offense," Phillies left fielder Raul Ibanez said. "He’s such an electric player."
The Cubs come into Monday’s game also playing well, having won four straight. They just swept the Nationals. "We’ll go into Philly with some momentum, playing better on the road," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said "They’re hot as heck, so we’ll see."
The Cubs send All-Star Ted Lilly to the mound on Monday. He is 9-6 on the season with a 3.18 ERA. His start was pushed back two days because of inflammation in his left knee. "I was feeling OK," Lilly said, "Hopefully with the rest, it’ll give me a chance to feel better." Lilly has won his last two starts allowing just three runs and 13 hits. He has lost his last three starts against the Phillies with a 6.75 ERA.
The Phillies send Rodrigo Lopez to the mound on Monday. He is 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA this season.
Last year the Phillies were 4-3 against the Cubs. Take a look at the sports wagering stats for Monday’s game. The Cubs are 4-0 in their last 4 vs. the National League East. The Cubs are 4-0 in their last 4 road games vs. a right-handed starter. The Cubs are 17-4 in their last 21 games as a favorite. The Cubs are 2-6 in the last 8 meetings in Philadelphia. The Phillies are 6-0 in their last 6 games vs. a right-handed starter. The Phillies are 5-0 in their last 5 games as a home favorite. The Phillies are 35-16 in their last 51 vs. the National League Central.

A very important National League Central four-game series begins tonight in Chicago as the Cubs host the Milwaukee Brewers at 8:05 PM EST. Seth McClung gets the start for Milwaukee while Ryan Dempster goes for Chicago. McClung is 3-1 on the season with a 3.55 ERA while Dempster is 4-5 with a 4.09 ERA.
Tonight at 8:05 PM EST the Chicago Series continues and a lot was expected from both the White Sox and Cubs this season but so far both teams have been disappointing.
