Rodrigo LopezBaseball’s best road team faces the league’s best home team as the Philadelphia Phillies are at the San Francisco Giants on Thursday at 10:15 PM EST. Rodrigo Lopez is set to go for the Phillies while the Giants counter with Jonathan Sanchez. SBG Global reports that early MLB wagering lines sees the public taking the Phillies on the road as a -112 favorite with a total 8.5 over -120.

Lopez could be making his last start for the Phillies for a while. He has done everything he can to stay in the starting rotation. He is 3-0 with a 3.09 ERA this season. With the Phillies getting Cliff Lee and with Pedro Martinez just about ready, it could be that Lopez’s time in the starting rotation is coming to an end.

Sanchez is 3-9 with a 4.92 ERA for San Francisco this season. He had his one great start when he threw the no-hitter against the Padres but other than that he hasn’t been very good. He gave up five runs on five hits in an 8-2 loss to Colorado last time out.

The Giants continue to play great ball at home. They are coming off a sweep of the Pirates as Randy Winn singled with two outs in the 10th to give them a 1-0 win on Wednesday. It was the first sweep of the Pirates for the Giants since 2005. Brian Wilson got the win although Matt Cain did all the work, throwing nine scoreless innings. Cain leads the league in ERA at 2.12.

chris volstadThe Florida Marlins (46-44) will try and prove they are worthy of staying in the playoff race as they host the Philadelphia Phillies (48-38) in the first of a four-game series tonight at 7:05 PM EST. The Marlins are four games back of the Phillies in the National League East so this series will be a good test for them. SBG Global reports that early MLB baseball wagering action sees the public taking the Marlins at home as a -120 favorite with a total 10 over -115.

The Marlins send Chris Volstad to the mound on Thursday while the Phillies go with Jamie Moyer. Volstad is 6-8 on the season with a 4.44 ERA while Moyer is 8-6 with a 5.99 ERA. Moyer is 12-2 in his career with a 3.06 ERA in 14 career starts against the Marlins.

Volstad is coming off his best start in which he tossed a five hit shutout against the San Francisco Giants. He is 1-0 against the Phillies this season allowing five runs in 13 2/3 innings. The Marlins are counting on Volstad and their other young pitchers to keep them in the race. If Volstad and Josh Johnson continue to pitch well and Hanley Ramirez continues his hot hitting then the Marlins could be a factor down the stretch. What will be interesting to watch in the next few weeks is whether or not the Marlins add a couple of players to stay in the Wild Card race.
